Chebeague Orchard Inn

Here are the ways that we are making the Chebeague Orchard Inn B&B a “greener” place to stay:

—We recycle paper, metal, and plastics.

—We compost as much of our food scraps as possible.

—We have an organic garden.  Most of the vegetables we devour during the summer months are grown right on Chebeague, in J’s parents’ backyard.  The other veggies are sourced from the many small farms in bountiful Maine, including Chebeague’s own Second Wind Farm.

—We use local products, from honey to beans to milk, keeping small businesses in Maine viable, helping the state economy, and reducing carbon emissions from shipping.

—We buy lobster from our island fishermen. You can’t get any fresher than that!

—We use organic or natural bath products.

—We provide the bath amenities in dispensers to cut down on waste from the production and disposal of those little plastic bottles.

—We use our delicious well water conservatively, and ask our guests to be mindful of their use.

—We wash guests’ linens and towels every third day to decrease our energy and water consumption.

—We use natural cleaning products as much as possible to keep the guest rooms and public areas sparkling.

We feel strongly about conserving our resources and doing what we can to ensure that future generations are able to enjoy beautiful places like Chebeague.  We also strive to support our local small businesses, which provide us with top quality products while reducing the carbon output associated with shipping. But mostly we shop local because our local businesspeople provide really great stuff!
